We are Pam and Pat, your program leaders for the summer. We are really looking forward to meeting each of you and traveling through the Land of Fire and Ice together. We are about to have the opportunity to see some of the most amazing places on earth, including standing on the boundary of the North American and European plates and visiting the northernmost national park in Europe for a rare glimpse at a landscape rarely traveled. We will also have the unique opportunity to experience Icelandic culture as we travel north along the fjords. 

Along the way we will be accompanied by many amazing locals, including our driver Sturla and many local guides. We will also meet up with our incredible Smithsonian Student Travel Expert, Stephanie Grocke, who is a super volcano expert and has specifically studied volcanic gas emissions in Iceland. We cannot wait to have her join us and enrich our understanding of the landscape. 

We are headed to Iceland during the most colorful season with long days and many things to do. Pack plenty of layers because the weather can change quickly and be prepared for some incredible hikes and adventures. 

We are looking forward to not only traveling this amazing country with you all but also creating connections, facing challenges, and learning together. The spirit of Smithsonian Student Travel is about building relationships and working together as a team. We will embody this spirit and look forward to creating a memorable experience for all.
