Into the Misty Mountain

This post features student writing by Ari and Anna.

Today our group left Reykjavík and continued our journey to the north. On our way north, we embarked on a six-mile hike with beautiful caves, greenery, cliffs, rivers and waterfalls. There were a few challenges like crossing a river on a log and technical hiking up and down rocky hills, supported by ropes.

While the mountain was steep, we used the ropes to safely ascend.

At the top of the hike we had to cross a very chilly river.  While the hike was beautiful, some of us (Anna and Ellie) took a dip in the glacial river and may or may not have lost a beloved flip flop.

When we reached the top we were all extremely surprised to see a vast flat landscape that was a sharp contrast to the cliffs, mountains, and trees we had been seeing during the hike. It was nothing but hills and moss as far as the eye could see except from a few random sheep we were also surprised to see.

After we completed the hike, we stopped for supplies and a quick snack at a bakery and grocery store. At the bakery, we drank delicious hot chocolates and saw pictures of Ben Stiller who had visited before! We loaded up on snacks and meal supplies and made our way to dinner. The food was amazing, especially the fish and chips.

After dinner, we made our way to the hotel and finished another amazing day in Iceland!
